Tell us a bit about yourself and about your current profession. What were you doing before you started out on your own?
I obtained degrees in Clinical Psychology and Radiation Therapy and worked as a radiation therapist initially. I started working part time once the kids were born, and eventually stopped working due to my husbands demanding work schedule. During this time period my husband and I had done two home remodels and really enjoyed the process and I had a bit of a knack for it and we continued with this once I stopped working as a radiation therapist. The home projects became more involved and we did a few tear downs. Around this time 2 architect friends suggested I consult to others even though I was not schooled in this area. So at this time almost 5 years ago I started my own consulting business and my first project was really an amazing opportunity. A very contemporary new construction which I was involved in from the planning stages all the way through construction and also helped in furnishing it at the end. I was responsible for all the interior finishing details.
When did you start your company? Where? And what motivated you to start it? What was your initial investment?
Paid for business cards and a website (which still isn't complete!)
What have been your achievements, accolades and upturns in your career?
This latest project, a very extensive remodel and addition is being published in the Palo Alto Design Newspaper
Any downturns, Unusual circumstances, hardships, you have had to face in your profession/business?
Economy tanked......an interior designer is the last person someone hires if budget is tight. One project was still incomplete and money ran out so it was put on hold.
The other thing that I need to work on is marketing myself. I really lack this skill unfortunately!
How do you balance your personal and professional life? How many kids do you have? What are your usual activities with them?
I'm very involved with our three children. Involved in their schools mainly and we enjoy spending time together....movies, etc
How do you spend your “Alone” time. Any hobbies, activities, groups you are associated with.
Reading, movies, socializing, working with a couple of different charitable causes.
What’s the secret to your being a SuperMomPreneur? And what’s the best compliment you have received about your career or being a self-professional.
I don't know the secret.....take one day at a time I guess. Some days are good others not so good. Try to stay grounded and true to my beliefs. Believe in karma, if it's meant to be it will happen.
Best compliment is that we have amazing kids and that I have impeccable taste!
